"I'm Legend" - Wanna-be "Perimeter Detection Sensors"

 on a shoestring budget. 


I've been crawling the internet for ideas and inspiration for this trip.  I also have joined many groups in Facebook for RVing, Camping, Wandering, Solo Travels, Van life, Women travelers, and over eaters anonymous.  The resources available from the lovely women (ladies, girls, gals, etc) are boundless.

I had these InnoGear Solar gutter lights I bought during Amazon Prime days.  I didn't know what I would do with them but, I just had to get them! There were 40% off! When I started prepping for the road trip I added them to the pile of "this could be helpful" - I figure there was a way to use these when I am off the grid.


They can charge during the day while I am driving and I have light! The "Ever Brite" smaller ones I bought during a recent trip to Home Depot, once I had the "I am Legend" aha moment.



These are designed to last all night and also have a motion sensor. The InnoGear come on when there is a movement and then go off completely.  The Ever Brite lights do not turn off completely - they keep a deem light on and turn brighter when there is movement.

For the purpose of having a perimeter detection area the InnoGear will work better than the Ever Brite. One of the rules of the fight-club is not to call attention to oneself. Having a tiny little solar light beaming in the evening is not such a "bright" idea (ha-ha - yes I went there). However, I can still use the Ever Brites lights if I need illumination so they are coming with.

I bought high power magnet hooks that I can use to hang the EverBrites and remove when I am on the move.  I can also use the high power magnets to attach a tarp to my car and create shade area when I am enjoying my solitude, so these are multipurpose.

So here are the results:


I had to improvise for the Inno Gear lights because they don't have anywhere to hang them from, so I took some of those wired baskets from under the shelves extra storage.  Added some fabric so the metal won't scratch and use duct tape. I can use a bungee to attach the basket to the rack.


The light may not look like much, but I am planning on using those only when I am at a BML spots. I will not need them in other stops. In a parking lot there will be lots more people (more movement) and the parking lots already have plenty of lights. 

I am also going to leave my "phone-turned-dash-camera" on still pic mode so in the evenings there will be a record of anything that moves across the windshield of the car. Wouldn't it be cool if I catch big foot?!

I am also planning on hanging "privacy screens" in the back windows, but I do not want to add them to the windshield and driver/passenger ones - why? because if they can't see me, I can't see them either.  So I am coming up with a way to add a semi-privacy screen by using my see through scarves:

Those motion lights are fantastic! I've got one over my front door and it is fantastic. I went ahead and put some on the gates of my rental property too when I noticed I was having some traffic coming over the fence. You're getting closer every minute!

I am testing them right now, so far 8 hours and they are still shining! :) better test now that I don't "need" them and make sure things work out correctly.

Life is not a Dressed Rehearsal

"Life is not a Dressed Rehearsal " Life may not be a dressed rehearsal, but it helps to have rehearsals before weddings, big presentations, interviews, dating, and life changing road trips... Yesterday I had a "packing the car" dressed rehearsal.  I am packing up my entire household so I have plenty of empty containers of the same size and shape.  I took the empty versions of the containers and packed the car.  Tested the windows and sunroof mosquito net contraptions too. This is the list of items: Goal Zero Yeti 150 power bank Clothing container - I need clothing for both winter and warmer climate. Misc equipment container - lamps, batteries, toiletries, charges, coloring pens, books, pepper spray, etc Carry-on suitcases -  half way through the trip I am flying out to Mexico for a wedding so I need "wedding-going-clothing".  I put the warm climate clothing items in the suitcase for storage until I switch them. "I'll like to stop there some day...."

How many times have you thought of stopping somewhere and just look around?  Well, for me, "someday" is NOW!  I am trying to make it into Yellowstone National Park before it shuts down for the season.  Each time I say that I imagen the rangers shutting down the water flow  into "Old Faithful" and cooling down the springs at "Thermopolis" -  But having that goal in mind doesn't mean I can have a little fun along the way. Day one and Two: Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rode Island and Massachusetts. Left VA at 6:00 on a raining day - what was I thinking! Made into into Jersey by 2:00 am and I learned a new lesson:  Stop ahead of the overnight destination at a restroom and put PJs under whatever I am wearing.  Once I get to destination, I don't want to be changing in the middle of nowhere, or, what if it is pouring rain? and I don't feel like taking a natural shower before bed....   ...

So, now what? What do you do when your world gets turned upside down?  You look for the tequila bottle and put those lemons to good use. I have unexpectedly been giving time off to wander, so wander I will. Starting September 27, 2018 I am going to jump in my car and drive in a big loop around the USA.  I am starting in the Mid-Atlantic area and then head up to Maine.  From Maine I start my westward expansion towards Oregon.  I know October is already winter up in the north. I am going to be smart about it and stick to lower passes.  Even if that means I'll end up driving longer.  I also know that I've never gone camping voluntarily. I do know that the road is long and dangerous, and yet it beckons. I know I am going to get lost, a lot.
