How many times have you thought of stopping somewhere and just look around?
Well, for me, "someday" is NOW!
I am trying to make it into Yellowstone National Park before it shuts down for the season. Each time I say that I imagen the rangers shutting down the water flow into "Old Faithful" and cooling down the springs at "Thermopolis" - But having that goal in mind doesn't mean I can have a little fun along the way.
Day one and Two: Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rode Island and Massachusetts.
Left VA at 6:00 on a raining day - what was I thinking! Made into into Jersey by 2:00 am and I learned a new lesson: Stop ahead of the overnight destination at a restroom and put PJs under whatever I am wearing. Once I get to destination, I don't want to be changing in the middle of nowhere, or, what if it is pouring rain? and I don't feel like taking a natural shower before bed....
I tested my battery operated decoration lights and they gave a nice glow to the inside of the car and helped me relax during my maiden night at the Chinita-mobile.
In the morning, I got showered by love from the twin-nephews and their hoard of stuffed animals!
After seeing various roads flooded I decided to download an weather app with live weather warnings! I am sure it will be handy once I start going near the mountains. So I went with the NOAA app.
In the past 20+ years I've driven from VA to New England many times - each time I drive by the Tappan Zee Bridge I've said to myself "self, one day you'll stop at the look out point, so today, I DID IT! (Apparently there is a big controversy because they have changed the name to the "new bridge" - to me it will "always" be the Tappan Zee Bridge.)
This is the view from the other side of the river:
While I was there, I noticed signs for the "Sleepy Hollow" Village - and I thought, why not?
From there I headed to Connecticut where I spend about four hours fighting with traffic - i ended up taking route 1 shortcuts - or the "Old Postal Road" - that one goes from Canada ALL the way down to the Keys! (next road trip?)
Made into Rode Island in time for a quick dinner and then finally made into Massachusetts! From the distance I saw the Gillete Park signs and once again, detoured, did you know that the Pat's Stadium is a sort of "downtown Disney" like area? there are restaurants, bars, and a movie theater... who knew!?
Tomorrow we are having brunch with the Boston nephews - probably will start heading out to Maine at some point in the afternoon... the days are shorter now and fall is in full swing up here...
