My Personal Westward Expansion
Not to be confused with "The Westward Expansion" - I am sitting in Ohio... first time I've ever been to this state! So the "never have I ever" part of the trip starts tonight.
I traveled through Letchworth State Park - Wow! I saw the house that the rich guy left to the state - perfect spot for a romantic get away! Or honey moon? Beautiful architecture and that "old New York" charm.
The trails are easy to follow and the smell of fall is everywhere... the sounds, the smells, the crisp air and the roar of the water! What a wonderful place.
I learned a new term today "Mooch-docking" or borrowing other people's resources while visiting them... it applies to people who show up with the RVs and need electricity and water... I am not doing mooch-docking, rather "Driveway Surfing" at friend's friend's locations. "Couch Surfing" when I visit said friends, who then put in me touch with my next safe spot to park contact.
I spent the day driving through upstate New York, Pennsylvania (Allegheny Mountains, where the guys from TV come to look for big foot) and then finally Ohio. I spent the night driveway surfing at a friend of a friend’s driveway in Cleveland Proper. I arrived at midnight so I didn’t get a chance to see much on my way in.
Right now I am sitting at a diner called “The Place To Be” in the Lakewood area. I drove from my safe parking spot to here during the beginning of rush hour. Now a couple of observations. Like all big cities, there are a lot of confusing signs and right turns only from the middle line odd rules. What I was most impressed with, people FOLLOW the rules of the road! A random car stopped in the middle of the street to let a school bus take a left turn on a four lane road. The posted speed is 35 and then it goes down to 20 and guess what? People actually slow down to 20! Color-me-impressed!
The lady at the front counter at the diner said good morning and smile! People walk in and say “good morning” to each other and when I asked for a place for one I was told I can choose any place I wanted – even a booth. I picked a place in the counter, I don't want to be "that fool" taking a whole table during breakfast rush hour.
Now, I know this is a super-simplified statement but: People in Ohio are nice! Even the radio station talking heads were nice, talking about blessings and good boy-girlfriend material.
Now, I don’t have any pictures to share yet so here are some of the pics from yesterday’s adventures.
